The lights are the easy part. The part you do not want is January. Cold hands, a ladder on frozen ground, a tangle of strands going into a box in the attic. We take that off your list. Here is what happens after the holidays when we hang your lights, and why the second year goes faster than the first.
We take everything down in January
Once the season is over, we come back and remove everything. Roofline C9s, the mini lights on the trees and shrubs, wreaths, garland, walkway lighting. All of it. You do not climb anything. You do not unclip anything. No ladder for you.
The clips come off the shingle or gutter clean because we never stapled or nailed anything to your house in the first place. Clipped, never stapled. That matters in January the same way it matters in a nor'easter. Nothing to pry out, no holes to patch in the spring.
Timing depends on weather. Ice and wind can move a date for safety. That is true in November and it is true in January. We would rather come a few days later than put a crew on an icy roof in Sayville or Port Jefferson.
Every strand is labeled by section
This is the part that makes year two work. When the lights come down, we do not coil them into one pile. Each strand was measured and cut to your roofline at install. The front peak is its own piece. The garage run is its own piece. The dormers, the porch, the columns, each one is a section.
We label each section as it comes off the house. Front gutter. Left gable. Right gable. Second story peak. The strands go into storage marked for that spot on that roof. Wreaths and garland are stored with the set.
Because every roofline is different, a strand cut for a hi-ranch in Holbrook is not going to fit a colonial in Garden City. So we keep yours with yours. Nothing gets mixed between houses.
No boxes in your attic
You do not store anything. That is the whole point of the service. We supplied the lights, we cut them, we hung them, we took them down. We store them.
What that means for you:
- No boxes in the attic, garage or basement.
- No tangled strands to sort in November.
- No testing strings on the driveway to find the dead one.
- No guessing which strand went on which peak.
- No ladder, in either direction.
The lights stay cut, labeled and ready for your house until we come back.
Why year two is a same-day install
Year one takes the longest. We come out, measure, cut every strand to the roofline so the bulb spacing stays even, and clip it all in place. That is careful work and it takes time.
Year two skips most of it. The strands are already cut for that roof. The sections are already labeled. We know where the peaks are, where the gutter runs end, which shrubs got wrapped. We pull your set from storage, drive out to Massapequa or Commack or wherever you are, and hang it. Year two is a same-day install.
The timer still comes on at dusk. Service during the season is still no charge. A bulb out, a strand down after a storm, we come fix it. That does not change from year one to year two.
What to tell us if the house changed
Your set is cut for your roofline as it was. If the house changes, tell us before install season. Things worth mentioning:
- A new roof, or new gutters.
- An addition, a dormer, a new porch or a new garage.
- Trees or shrubs that came out, grew a lot, or went in new.
- New columns or railings you want wrapped.
- Anything you want to add. Wreaths, garland, walkway lighting, uplit beds.
- A change of look. Say you had warm white and want to try pure white on brick, or red and white.
Tell us in September or October, when we quote, so the change is in the plan before November. If you moved to a different house in Patchogue or Merrick, that is a new measure and a new quote. The old set was cut for the old roof.
Get next year on the calendar
We quote in September and October, install in November, service through December, and take down in January. Most years the calendar fills before December. One crew, one point of contact, no subcontractors. Licensed and insured. We serve Suffolk and Nassau County from Bohemia.
