Short answer: call in September or October. That is when we quote, that is when the calendar gets built, and most years it is full before December. Here is how the season runs and why the early call matters.
Why the calendar fills in the fall
We give quotes in September and October. We come out, measure the roofline, and hand you a flat price in writing. No deposit just to get a number. Say yes and you get an install date in November.
We do not publish prices because every roofline is different. A cedar shake house in Sayville and a two-story brick colonial in Garden City are not the same job. The price comes down to:
- linear feet of roofline
- number of stories and peaks
- trees and shrubs to wrap
- wreaths and garland
- access
The other half of the timing is us. We are one crew. One point of contact, no subcontractors. That is why the work is consistent, and it is also why there are only so many November install dates. The houses that book in the fall take them. That is the whole reason to call early.
What happens if you call in December
We will tell you straight whether there is a slot. Most years there is not. The calendar fills before December, and we do not hand the overflow to a subcontractor to catch up. If we are full, the better move is to call the next September.
Weather is the other problem. Long Island gets nor'easters and wind, and ice and wind move install dates for safety. Book for November and a lost day slides to the next one. Book late and there is nothing left to slide into.
What the November install looks like
We bring the lights. You buy nothing. We measure and cut each strand to your roofline so the bulb spacing stays even from end to end. We clip the strands to the shingle or gutter. Never staples, never nails. Then we set a timer so it all comes on at dusk. No ladder for you.
C9 LED bulbs go on the roofline. Mini lights wrap trees, shrubs, railings and columns. Wreaths and garland are lit. Landscape and walkway lighting go in if you want them. Warm white is the classic. Pure white reads sharp against brick. Cedar shake and dark siding pick up warm white well. Whether you are in Levittown or Bayport, the choice mostly comes down to what the house is made of.
Clipped and cut-to-fit is not just about looks. Clipped lines and strands cut to the roof hold in wind better than stapled or draped ones. A strand that fits has no slack to catch a gust.
Three visits, one point of contact
One booking runs the whole season. The same crew shows up every time.
- November: install. We supply, cut, clip, and set the timer.
- December: service. A bulb out or a strand down in a storm, we come fix it at no charge.
- January: takedown. We remove everything, label it by section, and store it.
You never go up a ladder. Not to hang, not to fix, not to take down. You do not store a bin of tangled lights in the garage either. We keep them.
Year two is a same-day install
The second year is the easy one. Your strands are already cut for your roof and labeled by section. We pull them, clip them back up, and you are lit the same day. Nothing to measure, nothing to fit.
It still takes a day on the calendar. So the fall call matters in year two as well. It is a shorter conversation, but it is the same conversation.
